Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon that evolves from Pichu via happiness and evolves into Raichu or Alolan Raichu via a Thunder Stone.

Biology

Pikachu is a rodent-like Pokémon, covered in yellow fur with its ears being long and pointed with black tips. It has a small mouth, brown eyes, and two red circles on its cheeks. There are pouches inside its cheeks where it stores electricity. Its forearms are short, with five fingers on each hand, and its feet have three toes. It has two brown stripes on its back, and its tail is in the shape of a lightning bolt with a patch of brown fur at the base. Most Pikachu have black eyes, while some have blue eyes.

Lifespan

As shown with Puka, Pikachu can live for at least twenty years.

Gender Differences

Female Cosplay Pikachu have a black heart shape on the end of their tail.

Behaviour

The anime has shown that Pikachu sometimes travel in groups.

Pikachu is known to raise its tail to check its surroundings, and is occasionally struck by lightning in this position.

Habitat

Pikachu live in grasslands, forests and near power plants. A sign that Pikachu inhabits a location is patches of burnt grass.

Diet

Pikachu can be found foraging for berries, which it roasts with electricity to make them tender enough to eat.

Pikachu have been observed eating and sometimes destroying telephone poles, wires, and other electronic equipment.

Capabilities

Pikachu is able to release electric discharges of varying intensity. Pikachu is also able to release electricity through its tail, which acts as a grounding rod, as well as recharging fellow Pichu, Pikachu or Raichu with electric shocks.

Pikachu have been known to build up energy in its glands, and will need to discharge to avoid complications.

When threatened, Pikachu looses electric charges from its cheeks, and a group can build and cause lightning storms.

For an unknown reason, Puka can sense big waves coming to the Seafoam Islands beach, causing his eyes to glow.
